چکیده

Current trends in technology indicate that nanometerscale devices will be feasible within two decades. It is likely that NASA will attempt a manned Mars mission within the next few decades. Manned Mars activities will be relatively labor-intensive, presenting significant risk of damage to the Marssuit. We have investigated two possible architectures for nanotechnology applied to the problem of damage during Mars surface activity. Nanorobots can be used to actively repair damaged suit materials while an astronaut is in the field, precluding the need to return immediately to a pressurized area. Assembler nanorobots reproduce both themselves and the more specialized Marssuit Repair Nanorobots (MRN). MRN nanorobots operate as space-filling polyhedra to repair damage to a Marssuit. Both operate with reversible mechanical logic, though only assemblers utilize chemical data storage.

Controlling Tiny Multi-Scale Robots for Nerve Repair

We designed and evaluated multiagent control for microscopic robots (“nanorobots”) aiding the surgical repair of damaged nerve cells. This repair operates on both nerves as a whole, at scales of hundreds of microns, and individual nerve cell axons, at scales of about a micron. We match the robots to these sizes using a combination of microelectomechanical (MEMS) machines for the larger operatio...

Canonical PSO based Nanorobot Control for Blood Vessel Repair

As nanotechnology advances, the use of nanotechnology for medical purposes in the field of nanomedicine seems more promising; the rise of nanorobots for medical diagnostics and treatments could be arriving in the near future. This study proposes a swarm intelligence based control mechanism for swarm nanorobots that operate as artificial platelets to search for wounds. The canonical particle swa...

9 Microbial Life in Terrestrial Permafrost: Methanogenesis and Nitrification in Gelisols as Potentials for Exobiological Processes

The comparability of environmental and climatic conditions of the early Mars and Earth is of special interest for the actual research in astrobiology. Martian surface and terrestrial permafrost areas show similar morphological structures, which suggests that their development is based on comparable processes. Soil microbial investigations of adaptation strategies of microorganisms from terrestr...

Efficient Cooperative Control System for pH Sensitive Nanorobots in Drug Delivery

In this paper, a control algorithm is proposed for pH sensitive nanorobots to deliver drugs in the tumor area while navigating in the blood stream environment. The nanorobots are able to communicate with their neighbors using the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. Furthermore, the obstacle avoidance algorithm allows the nanorobots to avoid collision with the blood cells. Each nanorobot can ...

Nanorobots, NEMS, and Nanoassembly - Proceedings of the IEEE

Nanorobotics encompasses the design, fabrication, and programming of robots with overall dimensions below a few micrometers, and the programmable assembly of nanoscale objects. Nanorobots are quintessential nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) and raise all the important issues that must be addressed in NEMS design: sensing, actuation, control, communications, power, and interfacing across spat...
